The story of Leitirm, its landscape, its history and its people is introduced in a lyrical audiovisual. A central theme is “Twin Traditions”, the mingling of Gaelic and Planter cultures. Another is the musical heritage of the area.

St George’s Church

St George’s has been a place of Church of Ireland worship for nearly 200 years. Fully restored for church services its airy interior is lit by the glowing colors of stained glas. It provides a superb venue for concerts and other cultural events.

Attic Memorial

Access to the 3rd floor Attic Memorial is by a staircase where introductory displays give the background to why workhouses became a feature of 19th century Ireland to the Great Famine.

The workhouse attic is an extraordinary placeand is presented in its original state. It is representative of hundreds of other such spaces across Ireland in which tens of thousands were force to live. It is conceived as a monument to a time in our history and recognition of the importance of every individual who suffered or died from deprivation or disease.
